FILIPINOS ARE BAMBOOS!

 

     We Filipinos are really strong, kind, and caring. People welcome strangers in their homes, feed them, and take care of them. We Filipinos are like bamboos; we bend but don’t break. These words are from Lala, the Kiva Coordinator and I totally agree with it because despite all the challenges life gives us we still manage to smile and help other people.

The Philippines are one of the countries that are still in a critical position because of the virus. We still have many cases and the virus keeps on spreading fast. Other countries have already opened their schools but here in the Philippines, schools are still closed. When the pandemic started, many Filipinos lost their jobs and many people died because of the virus. It is hard to defeat the virus but people still manage to put smiles on their faces despite all the things we are experiencing right now. Filipinos are really strong and resilient. The proof of us being strong is when the typhoon Yolanda in 2013 happened, 90% of Tacloban in the island of Leyte was destroyed. The typhoon affected 14 million across 44 provinces, displacing 4.1 million people. The typhoon killed more than 6,000 people and 1,800 were missing. It took years before recovering from it but people remained strong and still smile even though their houses were destroyed. We survived Yolanda and I know we can survive this coronavirus too. We must follow the protocols so that we can help one another.

    We label ourselves as bamboo, we bend but we do not break and We Filipinos are really strong, we survived so many things like typhoons, tsunami, etc. I am sure that we will survive this virus too. We should follow the protocols the authority told us. Let us survive this together and one day we will put our mask in the trash and label our country as COVID FREE.
